Biographical Note for Gilbert, Perry W. (1912-2000) : Dr. Perry W. Gilbert was a former Cornell University professor, internationally known shark researcher, and Mote Marine Laboratory director (1967-1978). In 1957 he was chosen to head the Navy’s Shark Research Panel and, as a result, organized and coordinated shark research programs around the world for 13 years. In his many years of scholarship and research he wrote over 150 articles and edited two books that are still utilized by shark researchers today.
